Premium grade ground beef is a wonderful base for cheap quick easy dinner recipes but take care to use only the best so as not to deal with draining away surplus fat and besides, the taste of the meat is also better.

This meal is more fiddly than my other meals with ground beef as you need to make firstly the savory meat, then the batter, and then layer the batter and meat sauce in loaf tins to bake.

But the result is quite wonderful - it looks sensational and tastes superb!

Ingredients

Tip: Dice onions really finely

Step 1 : Make the savory Ground Beef Mix
Toss all the ingredients together and cook

Start by making the meat sauce for this one of Gen's meals with ground beef

Step 2 : Make the savory cake batter
Melt butter

While this is relatively fiddly as you have to make the meat sauce, then the batter and then bake the cake, it really is worth the effort. It looks divine and tastes sensational.





Layered Ground Beef Cake

This makes 2 loaves, enough for 8 - 10 serves.

This meal is ideal for freezing.

Just Add Prepare Savory Meat
• 1 lb/ 500 gm premium grade ground beef

• 1 large onion, diced finely

• 2 carrots, diced finely

• 1 tbs worcester sauce

• 2 tbs soy sauce

• 2 tbs sugar

• salt and pepper to taste, a good shake of paprika

• 1 cup frozen peas


• Preheat oven to 360F/180C

• Into a large non stick saucepan, cook all the ingredients, except the peas

• When the meat is cooked, throw in the frozen peas

• Leave it while you make the savory cake batter

Just Add Prepare Batter
• 3/4 cup plain flour

• 4 oz/ 120 gm butter

• 1 cup milk

• 4 eggs, beaten

• salt and pepper to taste

• 1 ts cumin


• Melt the butter in a large saucepan

• Add flour and combine. It will clump together

• Add milk then beaten eggs. Combine till it is a smooth batter

Layer then Bake
• 2 silicone loaf tins



• Spoon 1/2 the batter into the base of each of the two loaf tins

• Spoon the cooked savory meat on top of the batter. If there is liquid in the sauce, do not spoon it in.

• Top with the remaining batter

• Bake for 30 minutes

Slice the savory cake in thick generous slices and serve this yummy meal with lightly salted boiled potatoes and fresh greens

Tips

Only ever use premium grade mince so that you do not have to deal with draining excess fat from ground beef.

If you have some left over cooked pumpkin, mash this up and add this to the batter. It really adds a lovely flavor to the savory cake.

Garnish with chives as desired.
