This is from our collection of easy recipes and I've adapted this particular recipe for truffles at Christmas. This traditional Christmas treat is incredibly easy to make with store bought cake, frosting and sprinkles.

Here's how to make these sensational Rum Balls

For this part of the recipe, you'll require:

  • Cake
  • Rum
  • Chocolate Frosting
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Chocolate Sprinkles

Section 1:

Christmas recipes would not be complete without rum balls made from rich fruit cake. But you can make these recipes for treats at any time of year with chocolate cake too.

To make work easy, I've used all store bought ingredients.

Use a large fork and break up the cake into crumbs.

Add rum while making it into crumbs.

It'll be quite moist. Ideally, if you have the time, you'd it soak overnight for the fruit and cake to soak up the booze.

Roll a small quantity into a ball just like in the picture. Squeeze the mixture into a tight firm ball and place aside.

Notice for hygiene, I use disposable gloves.

Here they are, the rum balls stacked neatly for the next step, where they'll be coated with frosting.

Section 2:

Firstly, on a tray or a large plate, scatter a cup of the dry ingredients. It could be just cocoa powder and/or sprinkles.

Now, apply the frosting to the balls. Use a small teaspoon to apply, just like in this picture.

The frosted rum ball will look like this, thickly coated with delicious chocolate frosting.

Drop the frosted ball immediately into the dry ingredients. The dry sprinkles and/or cocoa powder coat it and makes it easy to handle. Use a pair of tongs to roll and coat it generously.

Here is a finished rum ball, coated in chocolate sprinkles. Place it immediately on the serving plate.

If storing for later use, store them in an airtight container but allow lots of room so that they're not squashed together. Be sure they're refrigerated.
